The Benchmark Cigar Drawer: Why Handmade Details Matter in Travel Storage

A drawer, simply defined, is a box within a box.  This bigs the question then, “Why two?” We tend to think that if a little is good….a lot must be better. While this isn’t always the case, it definitely is for a humidor. Having two boxes means that there is more Spanish Cedar, and therefore, more moisture holding and stabilization capability. It’s the kind of math I’m most comfortable with…the logical kind. All wood, by its very nature, is porous. It expands and contracts as it breathes in or breathes out the ambient moisture in its surroundings. There’s no wrong answer. And that’s also not the only question. Where do you smoke? Or maybe the better question is where do you most often GO to smoke? Whether its the local tobacconist or cigar lounge, or a friend’s back porch or fishing dock, or even a beach a few plane ride hours away, there’s an ideal humidor for you. And regardless whether we smoke pipes or cigars (or both!) or where we enjoy them, we all usually want the same thing: options. So there’s your first consideration. What makes a Quality Travel Humidor? (A Craftsman's Perspective)

For most cigar smokers, enjoying a cigar is an experience, not just an activity. And more often than not, the experience involves other people, inviting and relaxed atmospheres, pleasant conversations…and usually a sense of appropriate style. Sometimes the setting is the golf course, sometimes it’s a cigar lounge, the smoking patio at a restaurant, the beach, the woods… If you look at this list and think, “yep, all of the above!”, I think we might just be good friends some day.
